If your child attends PS 281, then you are part of the PS 281 PTA! The PTA’s main responsibilities are to build community in the school and provide supplementary resources necessary to ensure our children’s success. To build community, the PTA organizes many events such as the Thanksgiving Potluck, Valentine’s Dance, Spring Benefit, and International Night. The PTA also provides in-class enrichment programs for every child to supplement the school curriculum.
Your participation in the general PTA meetings and volunteer efforts are crucial to foster a strong school community. PS 281 is a family and we invite all family members (parents, grandparents, aunts and uncles, and more) to get involved!
Every family member and teacher (and the principal!) is part of the PTA. But we have a dedicated team of parents/guardians who have been elected to handle the legal, financial, and administrative duties. You can reach the Executive Board anytime by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org, or just stop by the PTA office in the mornings after drop-off (there’s usually one of us there!)
The PTA holds General meetings on the third Wednesday of every month (with some exceptions for holidays, etc.), alternating between evening and morning meetings. Please see the Calendar for up-to-date meeting information. At these general meetings, we discuss school business, upcoming events and activities, as well as hear from the Principal. All parents and staff members are welcome.
The PTA also holds Executive Board meetings on the first Wednesday of every month to set the agenda, discuss fundraisers and expenditures, as well as other administrative issues for the general meetings. These Executive Board meetings are open to the public. All parents and staff members are welcome, but please note that voting is limited to Executive Board members.
The Executive Board of the PS 281 PTA takes a leadership role in planning community events, making recommendations about in-class enrichment and afterschool programming, and serving as a liaison between parents and the school. If you would like to join us in helping to shape the River School experience, please consider running for a seat on the Executive Board for the 2019-20 school year!
The term for Executive Board positions runs until June 30, 2019, and individuals are limited to two consecutive one-year terms.
We will be holding a special expedited election at our September general meeting on Wednesday, September 18, at 7:45 am in the School Library.
All parents/guardians are eligible to hold office, unless they are employees of the school. All parents/guardians are eligible to vote in the election. Nominations for all offices will be taken from the floor, and the election will directly follow the nomination process. Incoming parents are encouraged to participate.
If you are interested in serving on the Executive Board or have any questions, please email us at email@example.com.
